A suitable bike lock is sturdy enough that it can't be cut with simple tools like pliers or wire cutters. Heavier tools like a bolt cutter or an angle grinder would be needed instead.

Stable U-locks, folding locks, or solid chain locks typically meet these requirements. Simple cable or spiral locks don't offer enough protection and are not considered suitable.

Minimum lock purchase price by bike value:

• up to €500 bike value: at least €29
• up to €2,500 bike value: at least €45
• above €2,500 bike value: at least €69
